Paid Advertising vs. Organic Search

The internet offers businesses different ways to advertise their products or services that are necessary types of advertising in today’s market. Gone are the days of relying on newspaper and magazine print ads. If you want your business to thrive, the internet is where people need to be able to find you.

Why isn’t a business website enough?

While it’s necessary to create an online environment for your business, this is not going to pull customers in. If customers don’t know about your company and that you exist, they have no reason to look for your website. This is why organic search and paid advertising are crucial to the health of your company.

How does Organic Search work?

Search Engine Optimization optimizes your website based on search terms that customers look for in search engines. When you use Search Engine Optimization, your company is given the opportunity to rank higher in Google Search results. The goal of SEO is to make your company show up on the first page of Google for any term a customer might search that is relevant to your product or service. The higher your company ranks for key terms, the more likely your search result will get clicked on, driving more traffic to your website.

Why use Paid Advertising?

Paid advertising, or Pay Per Click, does not replace Organic Search but enhances it. Paid advertising is actually more important than Organic Search because paid ads always show up in the top positions on the first page of Google. They are given precedence over organic search results and are more likely to get clicked on by potential customers. This type of advertising can significantly increase your website visitors and relevant job leads every month. Organic search results will never appear above paid-ads. The difference between the two is the appearance in Google search results and pay-per-click costs you money each time an ad is clicked on.

So which is better?

The question really isn’t which is better than the other. They both offer significant benefits to website performance and in landing good job leads or selling product. Of course, we all prefer not having to pay extra money for advertising which makes Organic search seem like the best way to go, but SEO just doesn’t bring in the traffic like Pay-Per-Click does, and not nearly as quickly.

When it comes to digital marketing, it is important that you have a nice, easy-to-visit website that will work with different advertising efforts. It is also important to understand that ranking on the first page of Google with paid ads and ALSO ranking on the first page of Google for organic searches increases your relevancy to your audience. Both types of advertising can be performed without the help of the other, but utilizing both advertising techniques at the same time could be the difference between underperforming or outperforming your competitors.
